I'm pretty fanatical about Open Access.
Other than that I love travel (particularly by train), theatre, reading, learning Mandarin Chinese, fiction writing, roleplaying, computer gaming, walking, eating and drinking.
I support efforts to reduce carbon emissions and have committed to not taking short-haul flights (less than 1000km) as long as a rail alternative exists. Since I love trains and hate flying, this is a no-brainer.
I used to be an occasional interviewer for the New Books in Language podcast. Here are links to the interviews I've carried out:
- Peter Trudgill (Sociolinguistic Typology)
- Elly van Gelderen (The Linguistic Cycle)
- Jonathan Bobaljik (Universals in Comparative Morphology)
- John Joseph (Saussure)
- Aneta Pavlenko (The Bilingual Mind)
- David Adger (A Syntax of Substance)
- Anne Curzan (Fixing English)
- Asya Pereltsvaig and Martin Lewis (The Indo-European Controversy)
- Sali Tagliamonte (Teen Talk)
